"WHAT'S YOUR ANSWER WEDNESDAY?" AND SOME SIMPLY DEBBIE UPDATES

XOXOXOXO...AMY...XOXOXOXO
ALWAYS  IN  OUR  HEARTS

TODAY  IS  THE  SECOND  POST  OF  WHAT'S

YOUR  ANSWER  WEDNESDAY.

EACH WEEK,  OUR  LOVELY  HOSTESS  AND  CREATOR,

MRS. SARAH,  WIFE  OF  JAMIE,  AND  MOTHER  TO

LYNZIE  10,  MICHAEL  8,  ELISHA  7,  CAINAN  6,

SELAH  4,  AVALON  1,  AND  BABY  LIAM,  AND  ONE

BLESSING  IN  HEAVEN.

OUR  QUESTION  FOR  TODAY  IS:

WHAT  IS  YOUR  FAVORITE  TIME  PEIOD(S)  IN

HISTORY  AND  WHY?

I  HAVE  TWO  FAVORITE  TIME  PERIODS  AND  I  AM

GOING  TO  JUST  MENTION  ONE  BRIEFLY  AND  THEN

TALK  ABOUT  MY  VERY  FAVORITE.

1.  THE  '50s....WHO  WOULD  NOT  LOVE  THE  POODLE

SKIRTS  AND  BLACK  AND  WHITE  SADDLE

OXFORDS...BUBBLE  GUM...SOCK  HOPS...THE  JUKE

BOX...ELVIS  PRESLEY...THE  PRETTY  SCARVES  TIED

AROUND  PONY  TAILS...NO  ONE  LOCKED  THEIR  HOUSE

AND  LEFT  THE  KEYS  IN  THE  PICKUP...A  HANDSHAKE

MEANT  SOMETHING

BUT

MY  VERY,  VERY  FAVORITE  TIME  IN  HISTORY  WAS:

2.  THE  VICTORIAN  ERA...REALLY  THE  YEARS  1800-

1850  PUSHING  THE  CIVIL  WAR.

ANY  ONE  THAT  TRULY  KNOWS  ME,  ALWAYS  SAYS,

I  WAS  BORN  IN  THE  WRONG  ERA.  I  AM  A  VICTORIAN

AT  HEART.

TATTING,  NEEDLEWORK,  HOOKED  RUGS,  FANCY  WORK

ON  THE  HANDKERCHIEFS,  CROCHET,  AND  KNITTING

SO  LACY  AND  LUSH,  WITH  DELIGHTFUL  FLOWER  PATTERNS

AND  LOVELY  COLORS, STUNNING  STAIN  GLASS  AND

SILVER  AND  CHINA.

A  VICTORIAN  STOOD  FOR  TRADITION  AND  KNEW  WHERE

THEIR  PLACE  IN  SOCIETY  WAS  AND  GLADLY  ACCEPTED

THEIR  ROLE.

FAITH  AND  FAMILY  WAS  THE  MOST  IMPORTANT  AND

MORALITY  WAS  DEMANDED  NOT  MERELY  TOLERATED

BY  SOME.

AND  OH  THEIR  BEAUTIFUL  HOUSES  DECORATED  AS

LAVISHLY  OUTSIDE  AS  INSIDE........THEY  WERE  OFTEN

REFERRED  TO  AS  "PAINTED  LADIES!"

EVEN  THIS  HOUSE,  AS  SIMPLE  AS  IT  SEEMS  IN

COMPARSION  TO  THE  OTHER  HOUSES,  HAS

GINGERBREAD  TRIM  FROM  THE  TOP  OF  THE

WINDOWS  GOING  NOT  QUITE  HALF  WAY  DOWN,

ON  THE  SECOND  STORY  WINDOWS.

A  VICTORIAN  HOUSE  WILL  ALWAYS  MAKE  MY

HEART  SKIP  BEATS  AND  CAUSE  ME  TO  DROOL.

HAVE  YOU  EVER  WANDERED  WHAT  IT  TOOK  FOR

A  VICTORIAN  LADY  TO  GET  DRESSED  EACH  DAY.......

1.  THE  FIRST  GARMENT  PUT  ON  BY  THE

LADY  OF  THE  1850'S  ARE  THE  CHEMISE,  AN

UNSHAPED  UNDERGARMENT  WHICH  REACHES

JUST  BELOW  THE  KNEE  AND  HAS  A  DRAW-

STRING  NECKLINE  AND  THE  DRAWERS  WITH

BACK  BUTTON  CLOSURE,  OPEN  LEGGED  FOR

CONVENIENCE  AND  CALF  LENGTH  WITH  SCALLOPED

EMBROIDERED  HEMS.

2.  THE  NEXT  ITEM  IS  THE  CORSET,  WITH  ITS

BACK  LACING,  HAS  A  FRONT  BUSK  CLOSURE.

INTRODUCED  IN  THE  LATE  1840'S.

3.  OVER  THE  CORSET  AND  CORSET  COVER,

IS  THE  UNDER  PETTICOAT,  USUALLY  QUITE  PLAIN

AND  WORN  AS  MANY  AS  SIX  AT  A  TIME,  DEPEND-

ING  ON  THE  SEASON.

4.  NEXT  IS  THE  HOOP  PETTICOAT,  HAILED

AS  A  LIBERATOR  FROM  THE  NEED  FOR  THE

EXCESSIVE  LAYERS  OF  UNDER  PETTICOATS.  ONLY

A  SINGLE  UNDER-PETTICOAT  WAS  REQUIRED  WITH

THE  HOOP.

5.  THE  FINAL  UNDERGARMENTS  IS  THE  OVER

PETTICOAT,  OFTEN,  WITH  AN  ELABORATELY

EMBROIDERED  HEM.  IT  IS  WORN  OVER  THE

LAYERED  UNDER  PETTICOATS  OR,  IN  THE  LATE

1850'S,  THE  HOOP  PETTICOAT.

6.  FINALLY  SHE  DONS  HER  DRESS,

PICTURED  HERE  IN  A  FAN  FRONT  BODICE  WITH

CAPPED  CLOSE  FITTING  LONG  SLEEVES  AND

CARTRIDGE  PLEATED,  THREE  FLOUNCED  SKIRT.

THE  PROPERLY  ATTIRED  LADY  IS  NEVER  SEEN

IN  PUBLIC  WITHOUT  BONNET  AND  GLOVES!

CAN  YOU  IMAGINE  IF  WE  HAD  TO  PUT  ALL

THAT  ON  TODAY  AND  WE  WERE  RUNNING  LATE.....LOL

HARPER'S  BAZAR  WAS  CREATED  IN  1867.

IT  WAS  A  REPOSITORY  OF  FASHION,  PLEASURE,

AND  INSTRUCTION.

IT  WAS  MADE  UP  OF  MANY  PAGES  OF  CREAM-COLORED

PAPER  PRINTED  WITH  BLACK  INK.

THIS  ISSUE  WAS  NOVEMBER  2,  1867  AND  IT

WAS  THE  INTRODUCTION  OF  FALL  HATS.

HOW  WOULD  YOU  LIKE  TO  GO  THRIFT

SHOPPING  ON  THIS?   IT  WOULD  BE  A  LITTLE

TRICKY  GETTING  YOUR  SACKS  HOME.

THANK  YOU  MRS.  SARAH  FOR  HOSTING,

THIS  FUN  MEME.

I  HAVE  BEEN  QUITE  ILL  AND  IF  I  DO  NOT

IMPROVE  OVER  THE  NEXT  TWO  DAYS,  THEY

WILL  BE  TESTING  ME  FOR  A  KIDNEY  STONE  AND

TO  MAKE  SURE  MY  RIGHT  KIDNEY  IS

FUNCTIONING  PROPERLY.

MR.  SIMPLY  IS  ALSO  QUITE  ILL  WITH  FLU  LIKE

SYMPTOMS.

I  EMAILED  THE  LOVELY  MS.  BEVERLY  AND

EXPLAINED  TO  HER  FOR  HEALTH  REASONS  I

WILL  NOT  BE  PARTICIPATING  IN  PINK  SATURDAY

UNTIL  JANUARY  OF  2011.

I  TYPE  IN  CAPITOL  LETTERS  BECAUSE  MY

EYESIGHT  IS  POOR...I  DON'T  KNOW  HOW  MANY

TIMES  I  MUST  SAY  IT,  SHORT  OF  POSTING  MY  EYE

DOCTORS  REPORT  ON  THIS  BLOG.

I  WILL  CONTINUE  ALL  OTHER  BLOGGING  MEMES,

INCLUDING  THE  BLOGGERETTE  SISTER  SORORITY

AND  MY  BLISSFUL  ATC  GROUP.   ART  IS

HEALING....AND  IT  IS  FORGIVING  WHEN  YOU

MAKE  A  MISTAKE...TURNING  IN  TO  AN  OBJECT

OF  BEAUTY  RATHER  THAN  AN  OBJECT  OF

JUDGMENT.

AND  KEEP  YOU  UNTIL  WE  BLOG  AGAIN.

SOMETHING  TO  PONDER  THAT  I  WROTE......

IF  I  WAS   JUST  A  BEAUTIFUL  PEACOCK

STRUTTING  MY  FEATHERS  FOR  ALL  TO  SEE

I  WOULD  BE  ADMIRED  AS  ROYALTY,  TIS

FAERIES  WOULD  ALL  WAVE  AND  BOW  TO  ME

ALAS  THERE  WAS  A  BRAVE  LITTLE  FAERY

WITH  PEACOCK  COLORED  WINGS

SHE  FLUTTERED  ALL  AROUND  ME  THEN

ON  MY  BEAK  I  FELT  A  RING

TO  THE  RING  WERE  ATTACHED  STRONG  VINES

MY  BEAK...I  COULDN'T  SHOUT

ALL  I  COULD  DO  IS  BE  RIDDEN

LIKE  AN  OSTRICH  WITH  A  POUT

HUGS  TO  MY  SPECIAL  FRIENDS

Thank you, Debbie, for this wonderful and informative post! I love how you gave us the step by steps for a Victorian lady to get dressed in the morning---you're right, we'd never get it done if we were running late!

I'm so sorry to hear you and your husband are unwell. I will be praying for your healing and please keep me updated.

Thank you so much for participating in What's Your Answer Wednesday---I'm having a fun time getting to know you!

Very pretty pictures. I hope you are doing well, Debbie. I've not been around as much due to having some computer issues and also having to get busy with working on my Christmas gift list. I'm crocheting mostly for my family in Germany and some friends here because I have no money, but a lot of yarn and time ;-)

Enjoy your week!
Doris :-)

I absolutely love living in this period of "history", honey. I don't think there is a better time to be living. I did love the 80s though.

Gosh, in Victorian times I would not be able to get all the way dressed before it would be sunset and time to start undressing again!!

Who has been snipping at you about typing in caps? A pox upon them.

Hope you feel better soon -- I have trouble with kidney stones also, they are so much worse than labor, worst pain I ever have had. Please get well soon.

SO SORRY YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND ARE ILL. I WILL SAY PRAYERS FOR BOTH OF YOU.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT I WOULD LOVE TO RELIVE THE 1940'S, I HAD A GREAT CHILDHOOD, AND AS A CHILD I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, SUMMER VACATIONS WERE SPENT AT A SMALL FARM WE HAD, AND WE ALL LOVED IT.
WE WERE ALL HEALTHY, MY MOM AND DAD, GRANDMA AND GRANDPA WERE ALSO THERE. IT WAS GREAT.

DEBBIE I WAS WONDERING WHERE YOU WERE.
FIRST LET ME SAY I LOVED THIS BLOG - I THOUGHT IT WAS SO INTERESTING.
I LOVED SEEING THE TIME PERIODS YOU LOVED AND THE HOUSES.
DON'T LOVE THE DRESSES.

I AM SO SORRY YOU ARE SO SICK. I GUESS YOUR KIDNEYS ARE HURTING.

ARE YOU GIVING UP BLOGGING FOR AWHILE?

I WOULD SO MISS YOU, BUT I'D UNDERSTAND.

GET WELL!

AND ALL CAPS WORK FOR ME.

SANDIE

HI DEBBIE,
SO SORRY YOU AND HUBBY HAVE BEEN SO SICK. HOPE ALL YOUR TESTS COME BACK NEGATIVE, AND THEY GET TO THE ROOT OF WHAT IS MAKING YOU SICK, BUT MAYBE IT IS JUST A FLU OR SOMETHING SIMPLE.
WILL SURE BE PRAYING TO THAT END.
LOVED ALL THE INFO ABOUT THE VICTORIAN ERA. I AM ACTUALLY IN THE PROCESS OF DOWNLOADING PICS OF HOMES WE SAW RECENTLY FOR A WED. POST, HOW FUNNY!!!
I AM SO THANKFUL WE DO NOT HAVE TO WEAR ALL THE VICTORIAN GARB THEY DID OR I AFRAID I WOULD PASS OUT FROM THE HEAT WITH THE HOT FLASHES I GET AT TIMES!! LOL COURSE, THAT IS PROBABLY WHY THEY USED TO FAINT SO MUCH!!
LOVED ALL YOUR VICTORIAN HOUSE PICS,
THEY ARE GORGEOUS. I, TOO LOVE THEM, THEY MAKE MY HEART SKIP A BEAT TOO.

WHEN I WAS ABOUT 4-6 WE LIVED IN A BIG 2 STORY CIVIL WAR HOME. MY MOM RENTED IT FROM A FRIEND OF MY GRANDMOTHERS, AND WE HAD A BARN TOO,
IT WAS EMPTY BUT WE HAD TONS OF FUN
PLAYING IN IT!! THE HOME WAS LOVELY,
A FIREPLACE IN EVERY ROOM, AND FULL OF BEAUTIFUL MAHOGANY FURNITURE. I REALLY LOVED THAT HOUSE, AND THERE WERE HUGE OAK AND MAGNOLIA TREES ON THE GROUNDS. I HAVE VERY FOND MEMORIES OF IT. UNFORTUNATELY, IT BURNED DOWN WHEN I WAS A YOUNG ADULT.

HOPE YOU AND THE MISTER FEEL BETTER AGAIN REALLY SOON. HAVE MISSED HEARING FROM YOU HON, BUT SURE UNDERSTAND.

BLESSINGS, NELLIE

Debbie, I hope and pray that you both return to good health soon. I'm sure you know that kidney stones can become quite painful, so I hope they find out soon and you can get treatment. Take care and God bless.

Hi Debbie! I'm with ya, I would loved to have lived in the mid 1800's to early 1900's but only if I was filthy stinking rich, lol. Otherwise life would have been hard. Have a great day, Nan
